? Story! Story! Story!
Friday, October 20, 2006 10:30 PM
hey! It is story time again!! Let's start with the passage from the Bible...
Romans 6:16-22
Don't you know that when you offer yourselves to someone to obey him as slaves, you are slaves to the one whom you obey-whether you are slaves to sin, which leads to death, or to obedience, which leads to righteousness? But thanks be to God that, though you used to be slaves to sin, you wholeheartedly obeyed the form of teaching to which you were entrusted. You have been set free from sin and have become slaves to righteousness. I put this in human terms because you are weak in your natural selves. Just as you used to offer the parts of your body in slavery in impurity and to ever-increasing wicked ness, so now offer them in slavery to righteousness leading to holiness. When you were slaves to sin, you were free from the control of righteousness. What benefit did you reap at that time from the things you are now ashamed of? Those things result in death! But now that you have been set free from sin and have become slaves to God, the benefit you reap leads to holiness, and the result is eternal life.

Long huh? Well, I will now begin my story.....

Spider Web

Susan sat in her room admiring a beautiful gold locket. This would look so pretty with my blue sweater, she thought, but if I keep wearing it, Mom will ask more questions about it. And Susan had stolen it. She had slipped it into her pocket at the store. How guilty she felt as she hid it in the bottom of a drawer!
The one day Susan wore it, her mother asked where it came from. Susan lied and said it was a gift from a friend.
Then she felt so guilty for lying that she became grumpy and cross with her family.
Susan's Sunday school lesson about choosing to live in the new nature God gives to Christians, instead of giving in to the old nature of sin, didn't make her feel any better either.
Susan's thoughts returned to the locket. "When you yield to Satan, one sin leads to another," her teacher had explained. "Look out the window, girls-that spider web we've been watching is bigger than ever. The web was small at first, but the the spider keeps making it bigger and bigger. Satan tries to work in your life like that. He wants to make his control over you bigger and bigger."
As Susan listened, she remembered the effect her sin had made in her life. Stealing the locket had led to telling lies and to being crabby and very unhappy. Back home, she took the locket from the drawer and went to find her parents. "I ...I have to tell you something,"she said and told the whole story. "What can I do?" she asked with a sob.
"I think you know what to do, Susan," her father answered grave. "First, you need to ask God to forgive you. Then you'll have to take the locket back to the store. The manager will decide whether to let you return it or not. If not, you must make arrangements to pay for it."
Susan nodded. "It will be hard to do," she said, "but at least it will be better than giving in to sin!"

Profile

Psalm 23
A psalm of David.

The LORD is my shepherd, I shall not be in want.
He makes me lie down in green pastures,
he leads me beside quiet waters,

he restores my soul.
He guides me in paths of righteousness
for his name's sake.

Even though I walk
through the valley of the shadow of death,
I will fear no evil,
for you are with me;
your rod and your staff,
they comfort me.

You prepare a table before me
in the presence of my enemies.
You anoint my head with oil;
my cup overflows.

Surely goodness and love will follow me
all the days of my life,
and I will dwell in the house of the LORD
forever.
